Non-Invasive Bariatric Gastric Pouch

The treatment of severe obesity remains one of the greatest challenges of modern medicine. Today, the most commonly used bariatric procedures are based on surgical reduction of the stomach through suturing or permanent alteration of the gastrointestinal anatomy.
While these methods can be effective in the short to medium term, they are highly invasive and carry a significant risk of long-term complications.

Limitations of Traditional Bariatric Surgery

Gastric suturing is an irreversible procedure that permanently alters the physiology of the stomach.
Over time, it may lead to chronic inflammation, malabsorption disorders, reflux disease, nutritional deficiencies, and mechanical complications that require additional surgical interventions. For many patients, this represents not only a physical burden but also a psychological one—stemming from permanent anatomical modification and the limited possibility of reversing the procedure.

A New Approach to Bariatric Treatment

In response to these limitations, INTERMERCATUS Biotech is conducting research and development on a next-generation, non-invasive bariatric gastric pouch.
The proposed solution is intended to be introduced laparoscopically, without gastric suturing and without permanently damaging the structure of the stomach.

Design and Therapeutic Concept

The developed bariatric pouch is designed to encompass the entire stomach, reducing its functional volume to approximately 250–350 grams.
This approach enables effective control of food intake while preserving the stomach’s natural anatomy and physiological function.
A key objective of the project is to minimize procedural trauma and significantly reduce the risk of long-term complications.

Benefits of a Non-Invasive Solution

The non-invasive nature of this solution offers the potential for:
shorter recovery times
lower postoperative risk
greater flexibility in future adjustments
Unlike permanent gastric suturing, this approach allows for a more adaptable therapeutic strategy, tailored to the individual patient’s needs and long-term progress.

Alignment with Precision Medicine

The INTERMERCATUS Biotech project aligns with the broader trend toward minimally invasive, precision medicine.
Therapeutic effectiveness is achieved with the least possible interference in the human body. We believe that the future of bariatric treatment lies in solutions that support patients in sustainable lifestyle change rather than imposing irreversible procedures with lifelong consequences.

Current Development Status

The technology is currently in the research and development phase.

Our goal is to deliver a solution that combines obesity treatment effectiveness with safety, reversibility, and patient comfort.
